What is the 3g iPhone?

Since Apple officially announced their development of the Third Generation iPhone (3g iPhone) earlier this year, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding this most recent release. The release date for the new iPhone has been set for July 11. The new iPhone has improved it’s features with specs like, faster internet browsing, work email, and a whole GPS system in the palm of your hand. To my surprise, the 3g iPhone, has also come out with a new price tag of only $199 (as opposed to the $600 price tag of the original iPhone). If you’ve been looking for an iPhone, then you’ll want to get to an Apple store early, because they are expected to sell out on the day of release.

What more could you really want? A brand new iPhone with awesome new specs at only a fraction of the price of the original. Now all we need is for Apple to expand to more mobile services providers.

PSP Gets Involved In Upskirt Shenanigans

If sales figures aren’t enough reason to show that the PSP is really making some progress in Japan against the DS, how about the fact that it was used in an upskirt crime? According to the Japanese police, or JaPoPos, a 59-year-old college administrator was looking up a skirt belonging to a 19-year-old girl on a train line. He was arrested using anti-stalker laws, and if he’s convicted, it’ll probably lead to even better sales of the PSP and the PSP camera peripheral in Japan. [NikkanSports via Livedoor via Kotaku]

Clear Armor Brings Apache-Grade Scratch Protection to Your iPhone (But Will It Blend?)

Case-mate has announced the release of a “groundbreaking” new product designed to protect your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Classic (60 and 80GB), or Blackberry Curve from scratches using a military-grade Scotchgard film from 3M that was originally designed to protect Apache helicopter blades during Desert Storm. The film is also completely clear, so there are no bulky, ugly cases to contend with. But the real question here is: does it blend? Well, let’s find out:

Case-mate’s Clear Armor is available now for $19.99. It may not have been released in time for the iPhone case Battlemodo, but look for a review soon. [case-mate]

iSlsk Soulseek Client Downloads Music to Your iPhone and iPod Touch

iPhone/iPod touch only: Freeware application iSlsk is a Soulseek peer-to-peer client for the iPhone and iPod touch which can download MP3s from the Soulseek network directly to your device. Once you’ve downloaded a song, iSlsk imports the MP3 directly to your iPod so you can play it alongside all the rest of your music. Sounds too good to be true, right? It almost is. The video after the jump demonstrates just how incredible iSlsk is, and the catch:

Currently all songs iSlsk imports get wiped away when you sync your device with your iTunes library. Despite that one drawback, after installing and trying out iSlsk, you won’t be disappointed.

Your iSlsk downloads continue in the background even when you leave the app, so it’s fully prepared to let you multi-task while you suck down music from Soulseek users. Granted, the clearing of downloads on iTunes sync is a bummer, but if you’re dying to hear a song while you’re away from your computer, iSlsk will do the trick. And if the delete-on-iTunes-sync ever gets fixed, we’re talking all kinds of promise. To install iSlsk, you need to install the Community Sources package on your jailbroken iPhone. (iSlsk is part of the BigBoss repo.) Haven’t jailbroken your iPhone or iPod touch yet? Here’s how to get the job done in 45 seconds.

Fingerprint Protected USB’s Get Cracked!

Manufacturers of USB sticks and cards with fingerprint readers promise us that their data safes can only be opened with the right fingerprint. In their tests, heise Security found that it is easy to bypass the authentication and get access to the protected data. This works by sending a single USB command, using the open source tool PLscsi, that changes the accessible partition. They found the vulnerability in several USB sticks that use the same chipset. The article concludes: ‘The fingerprint sensors in the products mentioned above apparently only serve one purpose: they mislead interested buyers. They do not provide any significant level of protection. We can only recommend that these products not be purchased.’ [Slashdot]

This gizmo may look small, but it is a powerful lifesaver. This is the SPOT satellite messenger, a GPS gadget aimed at adventurers and thrill seekers. HD DVD Takes Another Big Hit

HD DVD

So everyone knows that the war between Blu-Ray and HD DVD has been incessant for quite some time… Well, good news is that the war may soon come to a, long, awaited, end.
