Worst MMORPG Of The Year!

You may be familiar with Jagex and their online game called RuneScape.  If you are not, it is an MMORPG (Massive Multi Online Role Playing Game) where you create a character, and can either play for free or start a membership for as little as $5 per month.  I am very familiar with the game, because I used to play it a lot.

I enjoyed it and it was definitely quite fun, until the end of 2007. Jagex really ticked me off when they started over-regulating the games economy, which was one of my favorite parts of the game. I lost quite a bit of RS gold, and wanted revenge. At the same time, I knew someone that was selling a level 123 account, so I bought it and started farming gold (the games universal currency). You might say, “What is farming gold, and what does it have to do with getting revenge?”

Well, simply put, farming gold is when you make money in the game by doing normal stuff such as, making armor and selling it, etc. Except the only difference is that you make the money to sell it for real money also known as “Real world item trading”, which is against Jagex policy. By doing this, I was actually making some money off of it.

Shortly after I started this, Jagex took out PKing, Player Killing, and started up The Grand Exchange. The Grand Exchange, was used to buy and sell items, without having to wait in a bank until your item was sold. In short, merchanting became easier, and the price of goods fell.

In December, when you tried to trade a good, the “price” (which of course was set by Jagex) showed up in the trade screen. Prices of goods fell again.

At the beginning of this month, you could no longer have unbalanced trades. My gold farming business was shut down, and a group of friends and I stopped playing the game for good.

With all this said, on behalf of The Tech Bros, I proudly announce the winner of  “Worst MMORPG Of The Year” as RuneScape 2.
